STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior goaltender Rob Nichols (Dallas, Texas) was named the Hockey East Defenesive Player of the Week on Monday by the league office. It is the second weekly defensive honor for Nichols this season.
Nichols turned in a career performance to help the Huskies to a 3-3 tie at No. 14 Ohio State over the weekend. The senior netminder made a career-high 46 saves in Saturday's game against the Buckeyes to give the Huskies a point on the weekend. Nichols made 24 saves in the second period alone, a new record for saves in a period for Ohio State's home arena.
On the season, Nichols sports a 2.40 goals against average and a .915 save percent goals against average in six games. He ranks sixth in Hockey East in goals against and seventh in save percentage.
The Huskies will take on No. 5 ranked Boston University this weekend in a home-and-home series starting Friday night at the XL Center in Hartford.
